Why this model works

A low-cost, home-based franchise built around the job — not a shopfront.

Most South African franchises ask you to lease a store, fit it out and staff it before you earn a rand — which is why so few franchise opportunities start under R100 000. Mr Helium & Co works the other way round: you prepare from a private base, drive to the venue and build on site — store openings, mall activations, showroom launches, birthdays, baby showers and corporate gifting. Your overheads stay low and your money goes into kit, training and winning clients.

You are trained on the same system our crews use on real, deadline-driven installs: structure, colour, safety, quoting, pricing and how to win corporate accounts that rebook at every new store and every season.

What you sell

Three revenue lines from day one

A territory is not a single-product business. You are trained, equipped and licensed to sell all three lines — which keeps the diary full across the whole year, not only in party season.

1 · Corporate & retail décor Store openings, showroom launches, mall activations, trade show stands and seasonal campaigns. Quoted per install and invoiced on account — the line that carries the business through the year.
Leopard-print arch backdrop with rose gold, blush and chrome gold balloon garland, pampas grass and a personalised 11th birthday sign
2 · Private celebrations & events Birthdays, milestones, sweet sixteens, baby showers, christenings and matric dances. Weekend work with strong margins, and the bookings that grow from local referrals.
Personalised congratulations confetti bubble balloon above a gourmet gift basket delivered to a motor dealership showroom
3 · Bespoke & corporate gifting Personalised hampers, balloon and bloom boxes and corporate gifting programmes. Product you can sell every day of the week — including the days you are not installing.

Territories

Franchise territories across South Africa

Territories are exclusive and allocated on a first-confirmed basis, sized by population and retail density. These are the regions franchisees ask about most — tell us your town and we will confirm whether it is still open.

Franchise FAQs

Questions franchisees ask us

How much does a Mr Helium & Co franchise cost?

Three indicative 2026 investment levels: Launch Territory from R95 000, Signature Territory from R165 000 and Regional Master Territory from R380 000. Each covers the brand licence, an exclusive territory, the décor and gifting kit and hands-on training. Vehicle purchase, working capital and VAT sit outside those figures, and final numbers are confirmed in written disclosure before anything is signed.

Is this a home-based or mobile franchise?

Yes. You prepare from a private base such as your home and install at the client's venue — no retail lease, no shopfitting and no fixed rent. That is the main reason set-up sits far below a typical South African retail or food franchise.

Do I need experience in balloon décor or events?

No. Training is designed for new operators and covers installation, structure, colour, safety, quoting and pricing. Reliability on deadlines, confidence with corporate clients, a valid driver's licence and working capital for early jobs matter more than décor experience.

Which package do most new franchisees choose?

Signature Territory from R165 000. The extra R70 000 over Launch buys branded vehicle readiness, the full structure and activation kit, advanced install training, the corporate quoting playbook and a local launch campaign — what it takes to win repeat corporate and retail work rather than only private bookings.

What ongoing fees are payable?

A management fee and a marketing levy, both disclosed in writing before signing so you can take them to your own advisor. For context, published South African franchise sector norms are roughly a 5–8% royalty plus a 1–3% marketing levy.

How are territories allocated and protected?

Territories are exclusive, allocated on a first-confirmed basis and sized by population and retail density. Launch covers a town or suburb cluster, Signature a larger town or metro zone, and Regional Master a region with rights to develop sub-territories. Boundaries are written into the agreement.

Where is training, and what support continues after launch?

Hands-on training takes place in Nelspruit (Mbombela), Mpumalanga, on live installs. After launch you receive scheduled mentorship, supplier buying rates, seasonal campaign material and the corporate pitch pack.

Can I get finance for the franchise?

Possibly. South Africa's major banks run franchise-finance divisions, and development funders such as SEFA also support small businesses. Lenders commonly expect a meaningful own contribution and look closely at the franchisor's disclosure and track record. The info pack and written disclosure are designed to support that application — ask us early and we will tell you what a lender will want to see.

Is this one of the lower-cost franchises in South Africa?

Yes — the Launch Territory starts at R95 000, which puts it in the under-R100 000 bracket where few South African franchises sit, mainly because there is no shop to lease or fit out. Compare the total investment, not just the licence fee, when you look at other brands: our guide to low-cost and home-based franchises in South Africa sets out what to check.

Is this an events or party franchise?

It is a balloon décor, events and gifting franchise with three revenue lines: corporate and retail installs (store openings, launches, mall activations), private celebrations and party styling (birthdays, baby showers, matric dances), and bespoke gifting. Most party franchises rely on weekends only; the corporate line is what keeps the diary full on weekdays.

Can I run the franchise from home?

Yes. You need space to store kit and stock and reliable transport — installs happen at the client's venue, so clients never need to visit you. Check your municipal zoning if you plan to receive clients at home.

Is income guaranteed?

No — and be wary of any franchise that promises it. Figures are indicative and confirmed in written disclosure, provided in line with Consumer Protection Act section 7, before you sign.

How do I apply?

Complete the application below or WhatsApp +27 71 365 5987. Franchise enquiries usually get a personal reply the same working day.

Should I start independently or buy a franchise?

Both can work. Our guide on how to start a balloon décor business in South Africa compares the two honestly — costs, registration, helium, pricing and winning corporate clients.
